05-06-2010 Interactive Session on Biodiversity
Interactive Session on Biodiversity
5 June 2010 : 1000 hrs; CII Conference Room,6 N S Road,  Kolkata

The Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), Eastern Region on the World Environment day is organizing an “Interactive Session on Biodiversity” on 5 June 2010 at CII Conference Room, 6 Netaji Subhas Road, Kolkata.

The year 2010 has been declared as the “International Year of Biodiversity” by the United Nations. This initiative not only re-emphasises the importance of biodiversity as people all over the world are working to safeguard this irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce biodiversity loss. This is vital for current and future human wellbeing.

Protecting biodiversity is in our self-interest. Biological resources are the pillars upon which we build civilizations. Nature's products support such diverse industries as agriculture, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, horticulture, construction and waste treatment. The loss of biodiversity threatens our food supplies, opportunities for recreation and tourism, and sources of wood, medicines and energy. It also interferes with essential ecological functions.

World Environment Day is a day for advocating partnerships among all stakeholders. It is a  people's event with colourful activities such as street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essays and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, as well as recycling and clean-up campaigns.

Against this backdrop, we will have consultative forums for deliberation on issues related to Biodiversity, which will be followed by sapling distribution.

We are writing to seek your participation and your colleagues at this green initiative. Kindly use the enclosed reply form to confirm your participation.
